Finding Calm in Chaotic Times: Essential Practices for Balance

In moments of stress and uncertainty, many of us feel an inner chaos that disrupts our peace and focus. This turmoil often stems from how energy moves—or fails to move—within our bodies and minds. Understanding and working with these energies can create a powerful bridge to calm, helping us clear congestion and restore balance. This post is first in a series that explores practical techniques drawn from ancient traditions. Techniques that anyone can use to ease emotional and physical tension, strengthen inner resilience, and find calm amid chaos.

Understanding Energy and Its Movement

A path to harmony

Energy in the body is not just a vague concept; it follows clear pathways and patterns. The phrase matter follows energy, energy follows thought highlights how our mental state influences the flow of energy, which in turn affects physical health and emotional well-being.

When energy stagnates, it creates blockages that can manifest as fatigue, emotional overwhelm, or even physical pain. Pain is often a sign of congested energy that needs to be released. The key is to provide space for energy to move freely, allowing old, stuck energies to be released and new, healing energies to enter.

Two major systems describe these energy flows:

  • Chakras from Hindu tradition, which are energy centers aligned along the spine. Chakras carry our stories, our own as well as ancestral. They interact with the environment around us.

  • Meridians from Traditional Chinese Medicine, which are channels through which energy circulates. Meridians feed Chakra energies and the organs contained within them.

Energy healing methods are more than just techniques; they are invitations to listen deeply to the rhythms of your body and spirit. When life feels overwhelming, these methods offer a sanctuary—a place where you can restore your natural flow and harmony.

Imagine your energy as a river, sometimes rushing, sometimes still. When blockages arise, the current slows, and tension builds. These methods help clear those blockages, allowing your energy to flow freely once again.

Clearing Gait Reflexes

to Release Stagnant Energy

One simple but effective way to start clearing energy is by addressing the gait reflexes. These reflexes act like floodgates to the meridian energies that surface on both fingers and toes.

When gait reflexes are blocked or tense, energy can become trapped, leading to feelings of heaviness or even pain.

Try this exercise:

  • Massage deeply between your fingers, on the pad of the palm under your thumb, and along the outer edge of your hand between wrist and baby finger. Repeat 3 X - both hands. By the third pass, you may feel less tenderness, confirming that flow is restored..

  • Some points may be particularly tender, if so, use a flashlight on these spaces to help break the congestion before continuing to massage the gaits.

  • Do the same with your feet. Massage deeply between the toes as well as along the inner and outer arches of the foot. Use a flashlight (as above) if any points are too tender to the touch.

  • Pain on any of these points indicates congestion. On the hands, this technique can prevent (or treat) carpel tunnel.

This practice helps energy flow off the body, making room for fresh, healing energy to enter.

Expelling the Venom:

A Practice to Release Anger

A video by Dondi Dahlin, daughter of Donna Eden who I studied with :)

I just love her. Can you think of a venomous name to shout out?!

Anger is a powerful emotion that can create energetic blockages if not expressed or released. The exercise known as "Expelling the Venom" comes from traditional healing practices and helps clear this stagnant emotional energy. It works with Wood Element from the Five Element Theory within Traditional Chinese Medicine. Wood Energy is associated with assertiveness and a pioneering spirit, but out of balance it can devolve into anger and judgment.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Find a quiet space where you can move freely.

  • Take a deep breath and focus on the feeling of anger or frustration.

  • Bring clenched fists to the center of your chest.

  • Inhaling deeply through the nose, bring your arms upward in an arc until your fists are above your head

  • On the outbreath, through the mouth, bring your arms downward with force and literally thrown the rage into the ground, releasing your fists as you do so. Exhale sharply as you do this, imagining the anger leaving your body.

  • Repeat this motion several times until you feel a release.

This physical action helps move trapped emotional energy out of the body, reducing tension, clearing the mind, and restoring energy flow throughout the body.

Strengthening the Central Meridian

for Protection and Balance

The Hook Up

Central Meridian runs up the front of the body, meeting and connecting with Governing Meridian which runs along the spine. Keeping these energies connected strengthens your auric field, becoming like a protective shield to the many energies that can throw us off balance. Not the least of which is our reliance on technology. Keeping this energy strong protects us from man-made electro-magnetic energies that tend to throw us off balance.

Before (and after) spending time on a computer or cell phone, do this quick "Hook Up" to keep your energies protected and strong. 5G is no threat once you're hooked up.

Note also that this simple technique can stop an epileptic attack in its tracks! People suffering with epilepsy often know when an episode is about to happen. It's then that this technique is so demonstratively effective. The better news is that in practicing this technique often, in creating a habit of strong and fortified energies, many epileptics have considerably reduced the frequency of their seizures. If ever you are witness to a seizure beginning or in progress, gently hold these points for the person affected. Then, be sure to teach them to do it, and urge them to create a habit daily.

Hot tip: Hold the points ever so lightly so you'll be more aware of the pulses at both ends, when they synchronize, the energies have connected. In my experience, a deep sigh often accompanies the connection of the energies. Also note that the pulses aren't blood flow - you can hold these points an inch off your body and feel the pulse of the energies the same way. It's like magic, only science.

The Zip Up

The Central Meridian runs up the front of the body and plays a crucial role in protecting our energy centers, including the chakras. When this meridian is strong and balanced, it also acts like a shield, helping us stay grounded and less vulnerable to outside influences.

You can strengthen this meridian through mindful touch and affirmations:

  • Place your hands an inch or two off of the center line of your body, starting from the pubic bone and tracing upward to the upper lip.

  • Slowly trace this path with your palms.

  • As you do, repeat positive affirmations such as “I am centered,” “I am protected,” or “I am calm.”

  • Feel the electromagnetic energy in your hands supporting the flow along this meridian.

This practice not only calms the mind but also reinforces your energetic boundaries, helping you stay true to yourself. Great to teach young kids for avoiding peer pressure.

If you've ever felt vulnerable in the company of others, wanting perhaps to shrink into the nearest wall, a weakened Central Meridian was to blame. A strong Central Meridian serves to protect and filter your Chakra energies as you interact with the world around you.

Simple Self-Test

to Check Central Meridian Strength

To assess the strength of your Central Meridian, try this quick test from the video:

  • Massage the (lymphatic) points that run from your collarbone to your armpit (where Raggedy Ann or Andy's seams would be).

  • If they're sore or tender, you need this! The lymph, unlike the blood, has no pump. It moves when you move. Or alternatively, with massage.

  • Expel the Venom (because why not?) It's always a good time to release congested energy.

  • With intention and an affirmation, run your hands up the front of the body from pubic bone to the top of your lip.

  • When you reach your lip, with intention - lock it in (like turning a key).

  • Repeat the "Zip Up' three times.

Integrating Practices for Daily Calm

Incorporating these energy practices into your daily routine can build resilience against stress and chaos. Here’s a simple plan to get started:

  • Morning: Hook Up and Zip Up to face the day strong

  • As needed: Use the “Expelling the Venom” exercise to release any built-up frustration. Hook up before and after any computer work

  • Evening:  Expel the venom as needed to find a restful calm. Hook up. Trace the Central Meridian with an affirmation for a peaceful and restorative sleep.

Consistency is key. Over time, these practices help maintain clear energy flow, reduce emotional congestion, and support physical well-being.

A Gentle Invitation to your Inner Sanctuary

As you walk this path, may you find moments of stillness and grace. May your energy flow freely, your heart open wide, and your spirit soar gently on the winds of healing.

You are worthy of peace. You are deserving of balance. And within you lies a wellspring of light, waiting to be embraced.

So, take a deep breath... and step softly into the sanctuary of your own being. The journey to inner balance is not a destination but a dance—a beautiful unfolding of your true self.

May your days be filled with calm, your nights with restful dreams, and your heart with endless love.

Namaste. I see you. And you are phenomenal
